How to Listen to Music in Class

Listening to music in class can be a great way to relax while learning. Teachers sometimes allow students to use mp3 players, cell phones, gaming devices, and CD players for music listening during class hours. You should always check with your instructor first to get permission to use your portable audio player and be sure to keep the volume low.

Ask your teacher if you can listen to music during class. Ask them if there's a time during class when it would be alright to listen to music. Some English teachers allow students to listen to music as they read or write, or art teachers may allow it once you're working on the day's lesson. Teachers may also allow it after you have finished taking an exam or assignment.

Insert headphones into your portable media player. Teachers will likely not allow you to listen to music without headphones. Insert your headphones into the 1/8-inch jack on the media player. Some players contain small headphone symbol next to the jack.

Play an audio track on the media player. Select a track on your device and press the "Play" button. Check the player's user manual for the exact location of the "Play" button.
