Instructions

    • 1

Play the music quietly in the background. Pop in a classical CD into your home stereo or select a track to play on your MP3 player. Pick a classical piece that lasts for an extended time like a full symphony. This will prevent you from having to choose a new track every few minutes. Press the "Play" button and turn the volume knob to a low level. The music should be played quietly, so it does not distract you from your studies.

    • 2

Sit in your study workspace and listen silently to the music. Listening to classical music stimulates brain activity. Concentrating on the music for a few minutes can help you relax and prepare yourself mentally for studying.

    • 3

Begin to study your subject but do not actively listen to the music. Your brain needs to focus on the material for you to remember it. The classical music will still simulate your brain on a subconscious level, but it should only act as background noise while working.

Stop studying after 30 minutes of continuous work. Take a five- or 10-minute break after studying for 30 minutes. Sit quietly and listen to the music. Close your eyes and reflect on the subject you've just studied. Research such as a 1982 University of North Texas study have shown that casually reflecting on the material you study while relaxing improves your long-term grasp of the subject.
