Visit the bathroom prior to going on stage. A performance can easily turn into a painful affair if you neglect this step.Check yourself out in the mirror while you're in the bathroom so that you avoid being unpleasantly surprised if photos are being taken.
Dress appropriately for the performance. The appropriate type of clothing depends on your band and the music that you perform. The visual aspect is an important element for pop and rock bands. Discuss the issue with the other members of the band. If you are performing in a more formal setting, the band director may have a particular dress code for the male and female musicians
Pay attention to the other musicians in the band. One problem that electric bands encounter is that it is sometimes difficult to hear one another on stage. The sound qualities of some venues can cause problems. Ideally, stage monitors can correct the problem, but this does not always do the trick either. Do a thorough sound check prior to the gig. Set the stage sound to a volume level that allows you to hear one another. Pay attention to the other players during the gig. Visual cues help the musicians to play in sync together.
Practice and know your parts well. Avoid the situation where you stumble your way through a song because you have not properly prepared. This is a sure way to embarrass yourself and let your band mates down.
Take care of the basics. For example, bring spare strings, guitar picks, guitar cables, fuses and replacement tubes if you play guitar. It is always good for a band to carry spare mic cables and microphones as well.
Bring a bottle of water and a towel on stage. Many stages get hot because of the stage lights. A bottle of water helps make it through the gig.
Avoid yawning on stage during a performance. It may be necessary to check your watch during the performance, but do so discretely. Make sure to turn your cellphone off before going on stage.
Put bad feelings or issues on hold until after the performance. The members of a band may encounter a number of personal or professional problems and conflicts between them. This is difficult to avoid when you work and travel together. However, a professional band should be able to avoid bringing these issues on stage.
