Disconnect all nonessential USB devices, such as flash drives. Disconnect all Firewire and MIDI cables and shut down all programs, except for your preferred Web browser.
Right-click on the icon for your antivirus software, for example Norton or Avast. Select "Deactivate." This prevents the software from conflicting with the software updates.
Go to www.Line6.com/software, click ""Product" and select "All." Select "Monkey" from the drop-down menu.
Click "OS" and select your operating system from the drop-down menu, for example "Windows Vista." It's essential to select the correct operating system; otherwise Monkey will not work.
Click "Go" and, when prompted, select "Download Now." When the download begins, select a download destination. Select "Desktop" for convenient retrieval.
Double-click "Install," click "I Agree" when asked if you agree to the terms and conditions, then click "Next." Follow the remaining instructions, making selections to your personal preference. For example, you will be asked whether you want to set up a desktop shortcut. If you do want a shortcut, check the box. When you've made all selections, click "Finish."
Double-click the desktop icon or launch Monkey from the "Start," then "Programs" menu. From the drop-down menu, select the device to be updated. For example "Pod XT." A dialog box will pop up and ask you to download the drivers for that device. This happens only with the first use of Monkey. Click "Install" and wait for the relevant drivers to download.
Connect your external hardware device to the computer with a USB cable.
The computer will automatically detect the USB device because of the recently installed drivers. Click the "Back and Restore" tab and select "Load Bundle." This backs up all of your presets.
Click "Yes" when asked if you wish to install updates.
When the update is complete, right-click on the USB icon in your icon tray on the right of your screen. Select "Eject USB Device" and then remove the cable from the port.
