How to Use a Mixer as a Frequency Multiplier

A mixer is a device used by DJs to mix and remix music. A frequency multiplier alters the input level of different frequencies, such as bass or treble. Most mixers have a basic frequency multiplier function built in. Advanced mixers have a more-sophisticated frequency multiplier that allows for more precise adjustments. Multiplying the frequency is extremely easy to do and can be done on the fly during a DJ's mix.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the frequency multiplier tools on the mixer. They should be labeled as "Bass/Low," "Mid" "or High/Treble" on basic mixers. On advanced mixers, they will be labeled in Hertz (Hz) and kiloHertz (Khz).

    • 2

Play a track through the mixer using an input device (turntable, MP3 player or CD player.)

    • 3

Adjust the switch that controls the frequency multiplier. This is a bar or lever that alters a particular frequency. Increasing the switch will result in increased levels of that frequency. Decreasing the switch will result in decreased levels. Adjust all switches for their optimum functioning based on the particular song.
