How to Use Talk Box on the GNX4

The Digitech GNX4 is a digital workstation optimized for use with guitar. While it includes typical features of guitar multi-effect footpedals, like amp and stomp box simulators, it goes beyond simply shaping guitar tone and includes a MIDI drum machine, the ability to download and play MP3 files, and serves as a digital audio interface for recording on a computer. Since the GNX4 incorporates an XLR input to accept a microphone for recording purposes, it makes sense that Digitech also incorporates the mic into the "Talk" guitar effect.

Connect a microphone and a guitar to the inputs on the back of the GNX4. Adjust the input level of the microphone with the "Mic Level" knob and "-20dB Pad" button if needed. Both are located beside the mic input. If your microphone requires 48-volt phantom power, the button to engage this is also located on the back panel by the mic input.

Connect your monitor system. The GNX4 includes stereo XLR outputs for use with amps and PA systems, as well as a stereo headphone jack. These outputs share a level control knob beside the left XLR output on the rear panel.

Press the effects select buttons on the left of the unit to highlight the LED beside the "Whammy/IPS/Talk" line. Use the leftmost knob to select one of five versions of the Talk effect. The next knob controls the microphone's input sensitivity. No effect will be heard if this is too low. The remaining knobs have no function when using the Talk effects.
