Create an account with an A&R company and other artist marketing services. Producers looking for new talent will look to these agencies to find artists they are interested in marketing. Once an account is created, upload a short bio detailing your performance experience and some demo recordings of your songs.
Create a musician website with demo recordings. You can record yourself using a microphone and a good audio editing program. You can use the free audio editors Audacity, Sonar, Peak Pro or an equivalent audio editing application. For a more professional result, book an hour with a recording studio and record a few tracks.
Look for opportunities to perform live. Perform in community centers, college pavilions, at festivals, and enter rap artist contests. Opportunities to perform will help increase your fan base and improve your marketability to producers.
Find an agent to promote your work. You can look to the local musicians union for recommendations on agents looking for new talent to represent. Agents should not charge a fee to promote you; rather, they will receive a commission based on any money that your music brings in.
Attend music expositions from The American Composers Forum, BMI and ASCAP's "I Create Music Expo" that is held every year. These conventions give you direct access to producers and talent scouts in the field. You can also attend workshops and network with other musicians.
Hire a music producer to record your song for you. A local recording studio will be able to put you in contact with a producer, and may even have one on staff that can oversee the technical aspects of recording and mastering (the process of finalizing audio) your song.
