How to Connect Speakers in Super Reverb

The Fender Super Reverb amplifier is a self-contained amplifier/speaker cabinet containing four 10-inch speakers, generating 40 to 135 watts, depending on its date of manufacture. Likewise, the controls and electronics are slightly different between model years, but the four-speaker configuration has remained constant. When refurbishing or rebuilding a Super Reverb, make sure to create a 2-ohm load for the speaker circuit with the original configuration of four 8-ohm speakers wired in parallel.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the positive speaker lead using the Super Reverb schematic diagram, if desired. Speaker polarity is not critical as long as all speakers are connected in the same way. This wire has four blade plug connectors along its length. If you are rebuilding the amp, use the soldering tools, additional wire and blade plug connectors to refurbish this wiring chain.

    • 2

Connect each of the four connectors to the right tab on each of the four speakers, as viewed from behind the speaker. Use the pliers to create a snug fit, so the connectors don't come loose with vibration.

    • 3

Repair the ground wiring chain as in Step 1, if necessary, then connect each blade connector in the chain to the left tab on each speaker. Using 8-ohm speakers provides a 2-ohm load when wired in parallel, as described.
