What is screamo music?

Screamo is a subgenre of emo that emerged in the early 1990s in the United States. It is characterized by highly emotional and often chaotic vocals, as well as dissonant and abrasive music. Screamo bands typically use a variety of vocal techniques, including screaming, yelling, and growling. The musical style of screamo is often characterized by its use of complex guitar riffs, drumming patterns, and bass lines. Screamo bands often incorporate elements of other genres into their music, such as punk rock, hardcore, and metal.

The term "screamo" is often used interchangeably with "post-hardcore", however there are some key differences between the two genres. Screamo is typically more extreme in its use of vocals, music, and lyrical content. Screamo bands often express a sense of hopelessness, nihilism, and despair, while post-hardcore bands often focus on more positive themes, such as hope and redemption.

Some of the most notable screamo bands include:

- Orchid

- Saetia

- Pg. 99

- The Dillinger Escape Plan

- Converge

- Orchid

Screamo has had a significant influence on the development of other subgenres of emo, such as math rock and midwest emo. It has also influenced a number of other genres, such as post-rock, metal, and punk rock.
