Louis Armstrong is known to have played four trumpets throughout his career. His first trumpet, a "Besson Compensator", was given to him by his father when he was 13 years old. He later acquired a "King trumpet" and a "Selmer trumpet". Louis Armstrong also played a "Martin Committee" trumpet during the latter part of his career.
