How many players in a modern orchestra?

The size of a modern symphony orchestra can vary depending on the specific piece of music being performed, but it typically consists of around 100 players who are divided into four main sections: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

* The string section is the largest, and it includes violins, violas, cellos, and double basses.

*The string section can often comprise half of the total performers

* The woodwind section includes flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, and sometimes other instruments such as the piccolo and English horn.

* The brass section includes trumpets, trombones, French horns, tubas, and occasionally other instruments such as the bass trombone and Wagner tuba.

* The percussion section includes instruments such as timpani, bass drum, snare drum, cymbals, triangle, xylophone, and marimba.
