Which key element contained in Baroque music did Classical leave out?
The key element omitted by Classical that was characteristic of Baroque music is the ornamentation of melodies. Baroque compositions, especially from its second half, often featured highly embellished vocal passages and elaborately ornamented lines for solo instruments. On the other hand, the music from the Classical period generally tended toward simple, lyrical melodies uncluttered by excessive ornamentation. Instead, ornamentation became left largely up to the individual performer’s artistic interpretation on certain occasions within the context of the score.
