Materials Needed:
- Doormats or Carpet (enough to cover the drum heads)
- Scissors or Utility knife
- Foam rubber (optional for additional dampening)
- Gaffa tape or Duct tape
Instructions:
1. Measure and Cut:
a. Measure the diameter of your drum heads.
b. Cut the doormat or carpet into circular pieces slightly larger than the drum heads.
2. Attach to Drum Heads:
a. Lay the cut-out doormat or carpet pieces on top of the drum heads.
b. Secure them in place using gaffa tape or duct tape around the edges. Ensure that the edges are sealed properly.
3. Add Foam Rubber (optional):
a. Cut foam rubber into circular pieces the same size as the doormats or carpet pieces.
b. Place the foam rubber pieces between the doormats/carpet and the drum heads. This will provide additional dampening.
4. Test the Silencers:
a. Tune your drums as you normally would.
b. Play the drums and observe the difference in sound.
c. Adjust the position and thickness of the doormats or carpet as needed to achieve the desired level of muffling.
Tips:
- Thicker doormats or carpet will provide more muffling.
- Experiment with different materials to find the best sound for your drums.
- You can also combine different materials for different levels of muffling.
- Be creative and customize your silencers to suit your needs and preferences.
Remember, homemade silencers may not completely eliminate the sound of your drums but they can significantly reduce the volume.
