Does the trigger make f horn play like a trumpet?

The trigger on an F horn does not make it sound like a trumpet. Instead, it lowers the pitch of the horn by about a whole step, changing the F horn into a B-flat horn. Trumpet players who occasionally double on the horn usually play the B-flat horn or the higher-pitched E-flat horn.
