What is a jukebox musical?
A jukebox musical is a stage musical that uses pre-existing popular songs (i.e. top 40 radio hits) as the musical numbers, typically from one genre or artist, and incorporates them into a plot.
The first jukebox musical was the Broadway show "Jukebox", in 1977. The term gained greater usage during the 2000s. Other examples include "Rock of Ages", ''Jersey Boys'', Mamma Mia! and ''We Will Rock You''.
