Vibrating Strings

The strings are the heart of the violin. When you draw the bow across the strings, you create vibrations. These vibrations travel through the bridge, into the violin's body, and out the sound hole. The shape and construction of the violin's body amplify these vibrations, converting them into the rich sounds you hear.

Tension

The tension of the strings plays a big role in the sound of the violin. Thicker strings are looser and produce lower pitches, while thinner strings are tighter and produce higher pitches. You can adjust the tension of the strings by turning the tuning pegs on the scroll of the violin.

Bow

The bow is another essential component of the violin. It's made of a wooden stick, with horsehair stretched between the ends. When you draw the bow across the strings, the horsehair creates friction, which makes the strings vibrate.

Fingerboard

Body
