What is a bandura?

A bandura is a Ukrainian folk instrument, similar to a lute. It has from 5 to 12 strings, with the higher-pitched strings being made of nylon and the lower ones being made of metal. It is played by strumming the strings with the fingers or a plectrum. The bandura is often used in Ukrainian folk music, and is considered a national symbol of Ukraine.
