What is the origin of a violin with Compagnon trade mark?

Compagnon was a French luthier known to have worked in Mirecourt during the first half of the 19th century. It is possible that some violins bearing his trade mark were in fact Mirecourt violins made in his workshop that have not been otherwise attributed.
