Why are woodwind instruments not made of wood?

While some woodwind instruments, such as clarinets and oboes, are traditionally made of wood, many modern woodwind instruments are instead made of other materials, such as metal, plastic, or composites. While wood was historically the most suitable material for producing certain acoustic properties, technological advancements now enable the construction of instruments with similar or enhanced tone, intonation, and durability utilizing different materials.
