Here are the lyrics of the national anthem of Ireland:
Amhrán na bhFiann (English version)
Chorus:
Soldiers are we
whose lives are pledged to Ireland;
Some have come
from a land beyond the wave.
Sworn to be free,
no more our ancient sireland
Shall shelter the despot or the slave.
Verse 1:
The warriors who went out to battle,
To free land of the Gael,
Men who fought so bravely,
Never thought they'd die with a heel on their necks.
Verse 2:
Sons of the Gael! Men of Ireland!
In bondage no more our suffering ends.
Let lay siege now to the foe who oppressed us
And with the might of the true Gaelic men
We'll banish the traitor and the coward.
We'll give our lives, if needs be,
In the cause that is noble and just,
That our sons and our grandsons
May proudly tread on Irish soil.
Verse 3:
The time has now come for revenge,
And none, oh none may stay.
The coward who will not fight,
Will surely rue this mournful day.
Verse 4:
Our foes shall find our flag unfurled,
In many a field of war.
When freedom comes,
Let no man put his trust
In foe or in traitor, in slave or in serf.
Verse 5:
The soldier's life is full of danger,
Our cause of right full, pure and strong,
For freedom, for faith, for fatherland,
We'll fight and, if needs be, we'll die.
