Why was the clarinet in woodwind section?

The clarinet is a woodwind instrument because it produces sound by the vibration of a single reed against a mouthpiece. Other woodwind instruments, such as the flute, oboe, and bassoon, also use reeds to produce sound. The clarinet is typically classified as a woodwind instrument, even though some clarinets are made from hard rubber, composite materials, or metal.
