Are the keys on a keyboard in order?

The letters on a standard QWERTY keyboard are not, at first glance, in alphabetical order. However, they were intentionally ordered to slow typerwriters from jamming. The most commonly used letters were placed away from each other to prevent the metal typewriter hammers from colliding at high speeds.
