Do Gibson guitars have wider necks?

The standard nut width for most Gibson electric guitars is 1.695 inches (43mm). This is wider than the standard nut width for most Fender electric guitars, which is 1.650 inches (42mm). However, there are some Gibson models with narrower nut widths, such as the SG Standard, which has a nut width of 1.625 inches (41.3mm), and the Les Paul Junior, which has a nut width of 1.587 inches (40.3mm).

In addition to the nut width, the neck profile also plays a role in how wide a guitar neck feels. Gibson guitars typically have a thicker neck profile than Fender guitars, which can make them feel wider. However, there are also Gibson models with thinner neck profiles, such as the Les Paul Special, which has a slim taper neck profile.

Ultimately, the best way to determine if a guitar neck is too wide or too narrow for you is to try it out for yourself.
