Is Les Paul the inventor of electric guitar?

Les Paul did not invent the electric guitar. The first electric guitar was invented in 1874 by George Beauchamp, who was a co-founder of the National String Instrument Corporation. However, Les Paul did make significant contributions to the development of the electric guitar, and he is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the instrument.
