How do you play a g sharp on clarinet?
To play a G♯ or A♭ on the clarinet the normal fingering for the G is used with the addition of either the right or left little finger key or "pinky" key. Playing a G♯ with the left pinky involves more of the tone hole but is generally easier for most players to get in tune. When playing a clarinet the left hand and right hand are normally numbered 1-4 and L1 through R4. L=Left Hand, R=Right Hand.
G key:
- Left Hand: 123
- Right Hand: 1234
G# or Ab key:
- Left Hand: 123 L4
- Right Hand: 12344
This fingering is used in several different scales, key signatures, and chords such as F major, C major, Bb clarinet fingerings, and G minor.
