What other instruments does the cello sound like?

* Double bass. Both the cello and the double bass are large, low-pitched string instruments. While the cello is typically played in a seated position, the double bass is played standing up. The cello has a higher pitch than the double bass, and its sound is generally considered to be more mellow.

* Viola. The viola and the cello are both members of the violin family. The viola is pitched lower than the violin, and its sound is often described as being more mellow. The viola is also slightly larger than the violin.

* Cellophane. Cellophane is a thin, transparent film made from cellulose. Cellophane is used in a variety of applications, such as packaging, food storage, and window treatments. The sound of cellophane being crumpled or torn can sometimes be compared to the sound of a cello.
