Can you strum a classical guitar?

Yes, classical guitars can be strummed. Many players do so while adding some fingerpicked notes in between as a rhythmic and harmonic accompaniment for singing, or as part of playing different musical genres from around the world. However, due to its wide neck, and string spacing the classical guitar tends to be better suited for fingerpicking with individual fingers or fingernail and the thumb. On the other hand, guitars designed specifically for strumming typically consist of narrower string spacing, and usually, steel stings rather than nylon strings in most classical guitars.
