How to Adjust a DIRECTV Dish to Get Better Reception

One of the main arguments in the DirecTV versus cable debate is that cable is more reliable and the DirecTV dish does not consistently provide a solid reception. While this may be true, there are a few steps you can take to improve the reception of your DirecTV dish.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the elevation bolts by turning them with a wrench. Loosen the bolts only enough so that you can move the dish slightly in a vertical and horizontal direction.

    • 2

Gently turn the dish to find the strongest signal. Begin by turning the dish to the left.

    • 3

Pause for a few moments each time you move the dish. Continue to turn the dish and pause every few seconds to check the dish's signal-strength meter.

    • 4

Move the dish slowly in the opposite direction. Continue to move and pause every few seconds until you again receive the highest reading on the dish's signal-strength screen. Tighten the bolts that regulate the dish's horizontal movement.

    • 5

Move the dish in an up-and-down direction. Monitor the signal-strength display to determine where the dish gets its best reception. Tighten the elevation bolts.
