Where did the tuba come from?
The tuba evolved from the serpent and ophicleide, two earlier brass instruments that were popular in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The tuba was first introduced in the 1830s by German instrument makers Wilhelm Wieprecht and Carl Wilhelm Moritz. It was originally used as a military instrument, but it soon found its place in orchestras and other musical ensembles. The tuba is now considered one of the most important brass instruments, and it is used in a wide variety of musical genres, from classical to jazz to rock.
