How do you play a high d above b flat on trombone?

There are multiple ways depending on what instrument you have in order to play a D above the staff with Bb:

Using "trigger"

- Ensure that your trigger lever for Bb is raised.

Without "trigger"

>Using "side valve 6" on Tenor

- Use 4th-6th position

>Using "FAD trigger" on Bass

- 1 - trigger 7

- 1 - 6 (if FAD trigger sticks or does not engage fully.

Note: Depending on the manufacturer and age of instrument, they are not always consistent - especially older Yamaha/XO horns for bass trombone. Best solution is to look in the owner's manual and verify for yourself or contact the manufacturer about your own trombone's specifics..
