How do you hold a bassoon?

1. Stand up with the bassoon in front of you. The bell should be pointing towards the floor and the crook should be pointing towards the ceiling.

2. Place your right hand on the bassoon. Your thumb should be on the thumb rest and your fingers should be curled over the keys.

3. Place your left hand on the bassoon. Your thumb should be on the left-hand thumb rest and your fingers should be curled over the keys.

4. Raise the bassoon up to your face. The crook should be touching your chin and the bell should be pointed towards the audience.

5. Hold the bassoon with your right hand and left hand. Your right hand should be below your left hand and your fingers should be curled around the keys.

6. Use your left hand to press down on the keys. The keys will open and close the holes in the bassoon, producing sound.

7. Use your right hand to finger the notes. The fingers on your right hand will cover and uncover the holes in the bassoon, producing different pitches.

8. Blow into the crook of the bassoon. The air you blow into the bassoon will cause the reed to vibrate, producing sound.

9. Control the pitch of the sound by adjusting the pressure of your air and the position of your fingers. The harder you blow, the higher the pitch of the sound. The further you cover the holes with your fingers, the lower the pitch of the sound.

10. Play the bassoon! Experiment with different notes and rhythms. Have fun!
