What is nu metal music?

Nu metal (also known as nü-metal) is a subgenre of alternative metal characterized by a fusion of elements from various styles such as heavy metal, grunge, hip hop, and funk. It emerged in the mid-1990s, primarily in the United States. Nu metal bands typically feature downtuned guitars, prominent bass guitar and rapping or screamed vocals. Songs often incorporate electronic elements, samples, and effects.
