What does hispanic day celebrate?

National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15) is a period recognized by the United States government and some U.S. states as a time to pay tribute to the contributions of Hispanic and Latino people to the United States. The month begins on September 15, the anniversary of the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It also coincides with the independence day of Mexico and Chile, September 16 and September 18 respectively. The period also encompasses Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12.
