Mississippi blues festivals take place year-round, drawing local and national talent. These events feature musicians, artists, entertainers and vendors who celebrate the state's musical heritage, and teach attendees worldwide about blues and its history.
  1. Bukka White Blues Festival

    • Named in honor of blues musician Bukka White, this annual festival showcases local and national musicians. The event also includes local vendors, fine artists, animal shows and antique car displays. Attendance is free at the Bukka White Blues Festival, which takes place over Columbus Day weekend each year in Aberdeen, Miss.

    Highway 61 Blues Festival

    • Established in 1999, the Highway 61 Blues Festival features local and national blues musicians. The festival lasts two days and includes acts on two stages for a 10-hour event each day. Proceeds from the celebration benefit the Highway 61 Blues Museum, which highlights blues legends and their music. In 2010, tickets cost $10 to $15.

    Market Street Blues Festival

    • Founded in 1996, the Market Street Blues Festival showcases local and national blues talent in Columbus, Miss. This outdoor event also includes artists, performers and vendors in a two-day festival attended by about 40,000 each year. Proceeds from the Market Street Blues Festival help revitalize the downtown district. In 2010, tickets cost $10.

    Rosedale Crossroads Blues and Heritage Festival

    • Sponsored by the Rosedale Crossroads Blues Society, this celebration promotes local blues musicians each spring for a one-day event. Attendees may camp out or stay in RVs while they enjoy a lineup of community based musicians, entertainers and vendors. In 2010, admission cost $1 to $5.

    Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival

    • Founded in 1988, the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival takes place annually, highlighting local and national blues musicians. Each year, the celebration awards the Early Wright Blues Heritage Award to a non-musician preserving and promoting the blues heritage in Mississippi. In 2010, tickets to the Sunflower River Blues and Gospel Festival cost $4 to $25.
