With more than 150 artists performing over six days, the annual Buenos Aires Jazz Festival International draws more than 35,000 from during the fall event. The 2010 event featured more than 60 shows in seven venues, as well as clinics and master classes for aspiring musicians. The 2011 festival is scheduled for November and is expected to draw international performers and spectators.
For 15 years, the city of Bogota has offered its citizens and guests three days of music in the fall at its Festival Jazz al Parque (Jazz in the Park). In 2010, the event played host to almost 26,000 attendees. New to the event in 2010 was the launch of Big Band Jazz Bogata, a "collective laboratory" of renowned jazz artists, arrangers and composers. An academic component of the event also features workshops and clinics for aspiring musicians.
Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival (or Oyster River Jazz & Blues Festival) takes place over five days and draws around 60,000 attendees each June. The festival is free to attendees and concerts are held outdoors on three stages. In 2011, a fourth stage featuring new artists and music specific to Brazil will be added to the festival lineup.
One of South America's best known jazz festivals is the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Punta del Este in Uruguay, usually held in January of each year. The festival features five days of jazz artists from throughout North and South America.The concerts are held in an open-air amphitheater in the rural area of Punta del Este. In addition to the well known jazz artists, the festival opens the stage to rising talent.
