Who organized the Woodstock Festival?
The organizers of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair—held August 15–18, 1969, on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York—were John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld, and Michael Lang. All four were young men with little entertainment-business experience, and their ambitious effort to present three days of peace and music nearly ended in disaster. Nevertheless, more than 450,000 people traveled to the site for the festival, which showcased dozens of prominent rock acts, including Janis Joplin and the Band, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, the Who, Santana, the Jefferson Airplane, and Sly and the Family Stone.
