What languages could liszt speak?

Franz Liszt was a multilingual individual who spoke and understood several languages. He was born in the Kingdom of Hungary, which was part of the Austrian Empire at the time, and his mother was of German descent. As such, he was fluent in both Hungarian and German from an early age.

Throughout his life, Liszt had the opportunity to travel extensively across Europe and met many influential figures from various countries. As a result, he acquired knowledge of additional languages, including:

- French: Liszt spent a significant portion of his life in Paris and became proficient in French. He even wrote some of his correspondence and compositions in French.

- Italian: Liszt traveled extensively in Italy and studied Italian music and culture. He became fluent in Italian and used it to communicate with Italian musicians and composers.

- English: Liszt visited England on several occasions and had the opportunity to interact with English-speaking musicians and audiences. He gained a good understanding of the English language.

In addition to these languages, Liszt is believed to have had some knowledge of other languages, such as Spanish and Polish, due to his travels and interactions with people from different nationalities throughout his career.
