How to Fit Guitar Strings

Guitar strings are held in place by the bridge, crossing over the body and ending at the tuning pegs in the neck. With use and over time, a guitar may need to be fitted with new strings, especially when it doesn't stay in tune or its sound is no longer as bright as it once was.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the guitar on your lap, with the neck facing your left side. Thread a string through the hole in the bridge, leaving a long tail. Pass the tail under and around the string.

    • 2

Thread the string through the loop and underneath the string. A knot will form that secures the string to the bridge.

    • 3

Thread the string through the hole in the barrel, which is attached to the tuning peg. Pull the string up through the opening near the barrel.

    • 4

Take the string's loose end and pass it underneath the string's main part. It should cross underneath and form a knot.

    • 5

Turn the tuning peg until the knot forms and is tight. Do the same procedure with the other strings.
