What beats are the music notes worth?

The value of a music note is measured in beats, which determine how long the note is played. The most common note values are the whole note (4 beats), half note (2 beats), quarter note (1 beat), eighth note (1/2 beat), and sixteenth note (1/4 beat). There are also dotted notes, which add half the value of the original note to its duration. For example, a dotted half note would be worth 3 beats (2 beats + half of 2 beats).
