How to Book an Army Color Guard

During celebrations and recognition ceremonies, the Army Color Guard escorts flags, or "colors," to represent the United States, applicable state and event, or organization. There are also typically two active-duty military service members carrying rifles which are fired in unison. By request, the Color Guard is available for civilian, military and government sponsored events.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure the event date, time and location.

    • 2

Contact the Color Guard closest to the event to confirm their availability during the necessary time frame. A good place to start is Fort Detrick Army Color Guard.

    • 3

Obtain the DD Form 2536, the only form you need to book an Army Color Guard. This can be provided by the Color Guard or by the public affairs office, or by going to Pendelton USMC.

    • 4

Read all requirements and review for accuracy, making sure that no question has been left blank. The event sponsor must retain a copy for their records.

    • 5

Submit the form in 30 to 90 days before the event.

    • 6

Be aware that military training and missions take precadence, and that requests are granted only when the event does not interfere with both, or when it is in the best interest of the Department of Defense to do so. The approval could be canceled should operational needs of the military require it.
