When did gamelan music start?

The history of gamelan music can be traced back over a thousand years, with its roots in the ancient civilization of Java and Bali in Indonesia. Gamelan music is believed to have originated during the Majapahit era (1293–1527) of the Javanese kingdom. The use of gamelan instruments and ensembles played a significant role in religious ceremonies and court performances. The first evidence of gamelan music in written form dates back to the 14th century, with references to gamelan instruments in old Javanese manuscripts. As gamelan music developed over time, it incorporated various influences from Southeast Asia and became an integral part of the cultural traditions of Indonesia. Today, gamelan music continues to play an important role in Indonesian society and has gained international recognition for its unique sound and musical traditions.
