Fender Twin Reverb Information

With numerous features and a manageable size for being mobile, the Twin Reverb amplifier by Fender is a standard model with a clean sound. The amplifier is popular for its built-in spring reverb and contains a solid state rectifier. Famous artists and musicians including Buddy Guy, James Burton and Hellogoodbye use the Twin Reverb.
  1. Twin Reverb

    • The Fender Twin Reverb is a tube amplifier for electric guitars that is manufactured by Fender. According to Fender.com, the 85-watt (at 4 ohms) Vintage Reissue of the 1965 Twin Reverb is available (was reintroduced in 1992) and features "four 6L6 Groove Tube output tubes, four 12AX7 preamp tubes, two 12AT7 preamp tubes, two 12-inch 8-ohm Jensen C-12K speakers, dual channels (normal and vibrato), Fender reverb, vibrato, two-button reverb and vibrato on-off footswitch, tilt-back legs, black textured vinyl covering and silver grille cloth."

    Speakers

    • According to Absoluteastronomy.com, the Twin Reverb typically carries 8 ohm speakers with multiple suppliers. Some of the most common found speaker brands in the amplifier are Jensen C12Ns, Oxford 12T6s, JBL D-120Fs, Utahs, CTFs, and Eminence. Occasionally there are some Twin Reverb amps that contain EVM 12L variant speakers known as EVM 12Fs. These type of speakers are generally fitted with metal dust covers, similar to what covers the JBL D-120Fs.

    Normal and Vibrato Channels

    • The two independent channels on the Twin Reverb are labeled normal and vibrato, and the black-skirted knobs are numbered on a scale from 1 to 10. The normal channel consists of two inputs, a bright switch, the volume control, treble, middle and bass tone controls. The bright switch compensates for loss of brightness via the volume control when the control is set lower than "6" on the scale. The vibrato channel displays the same exact controls as the normal channel, but has added a reverb, vibrato speed and intensity controls.

    Front and Rear Panels

    • In addition to all of the features on the amplifier, there are also front and rear panels with other controls. The front panel has a bright red pilot light lens (known as the "pilot lamp jewel") that covers the pilot light. The rear panel controls are the 2.5 amp "slo-blo" fuse, the AC outlet (for power), a ground switch, on/off standby switches and additional speaker output jacks and footswitch jacks (for activating the reverb and vibrato effects).

    History

    • The first Twin Reverb amplifiers emerged during the Blackface era (1963 to 1967) of Fender amplifiers. At the time, the amplifiers output was only 85 watts into a 4 ohm speaker. The era received its name because this was a time when the amplifiers were made with "black faceplates, black tolex on the cabinet and neutral to slightly amber tinted sliver sparkle grill cloth with a small ribbed rectangular pattern," according to Absoluteastronomy.com.
