How to Modify a Boss Blues Driver Pedal

The Boss Blues Driver pedal models the sounds of vintage guitar amplifiers and is designed to encourage creative customization and modification. According to the technical specialists at the Sweetwater website, "modeling frees you from the constraints of having to make do with a particular amp's tonal range."

Use the input and output jacks and the adjustment knobs to modify the sound on a Boss Blues Driver pedal and you'll get rich, warm results.

Instructions

  1. Preparing Your Equipment

    • 1

Plug in your amp and power up the Boss Blues Driver pedal with either 9-volt battery or the AC adaptor provided with the pedal.

    • 2

Connect the electric guitar to the pedal using one of your instrument cables. The instrumental cable should insert into the input jack on the pedal and plug into the instrument cable jack on the electric guitar.

    • 3

Connect the pedal to the amplifier by plugging one end of your second instrument cable into the output jack on the pedal and the other end into the input jack on the amplifier.

    • 4

Turn the amplifier and pedal on and strum the guitar. You should hear a tone from the amplifier.

    Modifying Your Sound

    • 5

Use the tone knob on the pedal to adjust the thickness and richness of your instrument's tone. Turn the knob clockwise to add warmth to the guitar's tone and counterclockwise to thin the sound.

    • 6

Adjust the distortion and crunch of your instrument's tone with the gain knob. Increasing the level of gain will add harsh qualities to the tone, while decreasing the gain level will produce a cleaner sound.

    • 7

Use the level knob to control the overall volume output of the pedal. Although you can use the amplifier to adjust the volume levels as well, the level knob on the pedal will control the volume of sound sent to the amplifier.
