What was the purpose of radio free people?

Radio Free People was a propaganda radio station broadcast by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) into Poland following World War II, from 1952 to 1956. Radio Free People began its transmissions in May 1952 in the United States zone in southern Germany. Originally, programs focused on political issues relating to Poland such as human rights concerns.

Radio Free People provided coverage of Solidarity events while Poland remained under martial law during the early-1980s and the station is also believed to have influenced the "Velvet Revolution" that resulted in the collapse of the one-party Socialist government in Czechoslovakia by the creation of political and ideological pressure against the totalitarian regime.
