Before you can burn your free music onto a CD you will have to find some songs that you like. First, think up a list of bands that you enjoy. This technique will work best if they have recently released a new album.
Go to each band's official website. A lot of artists will release free songs to promote their CDs online. If you cannot find any songs on your artist's site, try checking the record label.
After finding free songs on your favorite artist or record label's website, save them to your computer. Make sure to put the files somewhere that you will remember.
If none of your favorite artists had any free music to offer, you can find something new. Head to your favorite Internet search provider and type in "public domain music." These are songs that nobody owns, meaning they are free to download.
If you still can't find anything that interests you, try browsing online music stores. A lot of these, such as iTunes and Rhapsody, will offer daily or weekly free music downloads. Featured songs will be free for anyone to download.
Now that you have rounded up a collection of free songs, it's time to put them on a disc. First you'll need a blank CD. You will find several different types at the store, but the cheapest (CD-R) should be fine. The other types of CD simply have greater storage and a few extra technical options you will not need for music.
Next, put the blank CD into your CD drive. If a box pops up asking if you would like to open the CD, simply close out of it.
Now you will have to download a program to arrange your music and burn it onto a CD. Apple iTunes (see below for a link) is a free music library application that offers a wide range of features and a user-friendly interface. Download iTunes online and install it.
After installing iTunes you will have to import your music. Click the "File" button inside of iTunes, and then "Add File to Library." This will put your music into iTunes. Using "Add Folder to Library" will allow you to import many songs at once.
Next you have to put all of the songs into a playlist. In the bottom left corner of iTunes you will see a "+" icon. Click this, and name your playlist. Your CD will show up on other computers using this name.
Go back to the "Music" menu in iTunes and begin dragging your free songs into the playlist you created. You can also select all of the songs you wish to add, right click them, and select "Add to playlist."
Open your playlist again and arrange the songs in the order you would like them to appear on your CD.
Finally, click "Burn Disc" in the bottom right-hand corner of iTunes.
