How to Learn the Electronic Keyboard

The electronic keyboard is something truly fun to play and adds a sense of depth and harmony to a sound. A lot of successful bands incorporate a keyboard player into the band, so if you want to join a band you surely will after you become comfortable. The keyboard is also a useful stepping stone for other instruments, such as the drums.

Electronic keyboards are a little easier to play than a standard, old fashioned keyboard. Place your two hands directly over the keys and slowly mess around and become comfortable with all the keys and pitches. The idea here is not to follow a precise procedure but rather to warm up your arms and hands and experiment with the sound and keys.

The keyboard is broken down into different keys and pitches. Pitches represent different levels of the same note. Place all five fingers of your left hand on five corresponding keys. Slowly raise the pitch by playing the key with your pinkie, then your ring finger, then your middle finger and so forth. Once you reach your thumb, play the five keys back down. Do the same practice with your right hand. This builds strength in your fingers.

A lot of songbooks out there teach you specific songs. If you cannot read music, some keyboards contain an LCD screen that shows the fingers and keys you need to play for songs already uploaded in the keyboard. If your keyboard has this option, consider playing a song or two and learning the specific keys through the screen. If you want to learn how to read music, consult a piano teacher or expert in music.

Digitalized music selections and rhytmns are a great way to play something along with your piano playing. Digitalized music selections will change the sound of the key you are playing. This can range from basic piano to bass and even to harmonica and other unusual instruments. Digitalized rhythms allow you to play a basic beat (at any tempo you select) along with the piano music you are playing.
