Sometimes the problem may be that your Napster program installed correctly, but your computer system is not set up to run the software properly. Napster has specific minimum system requirements necessary to run the software correctly. Anytime you install software on your computer, you should always check that you have the right minimum requirements needed before you download and install the program to your computer.
If you are unsure if your system meets Napster's requirements, here are the minimum system requirements (quoted directly from Napster's FAQ page) that your computer needs:
\"Operating System: Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista.
Processor: Pentium-class CPU equivalent or better
Memory: 64MB of RAM minimum
Hard Drive: Approximately 13MB for Napster
Approximately 18MB for Windows Media Player (if not already installed)
Space to store purchased or downloaded songs
Monitor: Napster can be viewed on a monitor with a screen resolution of 800x600 or greater.
Sound Card: Sound card and speakers
Browser: Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher (6.0 is recommended). IE 5.5 requires service pack 1.
Digital Music Player: Windows Media Player 7.1or higher (Windows Media Player 10 is recommended, as it improves streaming quality and reduces buffering times.)
Internet Connection: Active Internet connection (broadband/128+ Kbps is recommended.)\"
Now that you have all the system requirements for downloading and installing Napster to your computer, check your system to see if you have the correct hardware and software to run Napster properly.
If you are unsure how to check your system requirements, here is some help to do that:
Click \"Start,\"
Click \"Run,\"
Type \"dxdiag\" into the Run box.
All of your memory, CPU and graphics settings are located here.
If you have met all the requirements and Napster still does not run, there may be a different problem.
If you are a Windows Vista user, you may need to give administrative privileges to permit the software for Napster install correctly on the computer. Some people have various user accounts that they use for different reasons, so anytime you install a program, you should access your computer administrator's account.
If you are already using your administrator account and have been unsuccessful at installing Napster on your computer, you need to run the installation program as an administrator. To do this, save the installation file onto your desktop when downloading, and after it has completed its download, right click the icon on your desktop and choose \"Run As Administrator.\" This makes a box pop up asking you to allow the program to be installed.
If you are not logged into your computer's administrator account, log off of the current user account and log into the administrator account. After that, save the Napster installation file to your desktop as in above paragraph. After it downloads to your desktop, right-click the installation file to choose the \"Run As Administrator\" option from the pop-up menu. Remember to allow the installation to proceed, and the program should install correctly.
If you download Napster from a third party website, you could receive corrupted files during the installation that cause Napster to run incorrectly. You may even get an error message stating that the file is corrupt. The cause might be the third party site having spyware or adware in its installation file, or maybe an installation file got interrupted or lost while you were downloading and multitasking. Either way, there are some fixes that may help you resolve this problem. For example, while downloading a program, it is better not to run multiple of programs and just to focus on the download, since it could use too much of the computer's resources.
The first fix is to scan the Napster file for any spyware or viruses. Go directly to your program files in the C:\\ drive to find the Napster folder. When you have located the folder, right-click to create a pop-up. From this menu, you should be able to scan the file with your anti-virus program. If you do not have the option to scan from this menu, you can manually find the file to scan by doing a custom scan with your anti-virus program.
The second available fix is deleting the corrupt file (provided you have discovered which file is corrupt), and reinstalling a clean installation from the Napster website over the top of that installation. If you do not feel comfortable installing over the top of the previous installation, uninstall the corrupted file and start over. Just do not download it from the same site you used before. It is best to download from www.Napster.com to prevent any further corrupted file problems.
