How to Be an Online DJ

Becoming an online DJ can expand your influence if you are already working a local scene. Creating a DJ show online can also be a great beginning. Online DJ shows support selectors who work with turntables as well as those who wish to submit digital playlists. Regardless of your format or approach, having an online program for your DJ efforts can help you gain practice or reach a larger audience.

Instructions

    • 1

Find an online broadcasting platform you are comfortable using. Ubroadcast and Livestream are examples of platforms from which you can broadcast an online music show (see Resources).

    • 2

Schedule a show time for your online DJ show. Choose a time that not only works well with your personal schedule, but with that of your intended initial viewer base.

    • 3

Create a playlist of songs in preparation for your first broadcast. This may not be necessary if you plan on performing an impromptu turntable set, though you still may want to give thought to your record selection beforehand.

    • 4

Set up a camera if you have chosen a video broadcasting platform and want to have a visual component to your program. Upload a digital image such as a logo or program banner if you are using a video broadcasting platform and only wish to present a playlist of audio content. Otherwise, connect your audio output source to the broadcasting platform's audio input source so that listeners may hear what you are playing.

    • 5

Open your broadcasting platform's user interface before your scheduled show time. You may take the time to soundcheck, test out the user controls and get settled before your music program goes live.
