How to Make Music Beats Online to Copy to CD

As a musician, you can hire a producer or engineer to compose professional beats for you, or you can save a lot of money and just do it yourself using free online platforms. Thanks to popular music mixing websites, even a novice musician can put together original, custom beats just like the pros. Best of all, you can immortalize your killer beats by copying them to CDs and sharing them with your friends, fans and perhaps even record labels.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose an online music mixing service. Visit a variety of sites like JamGlue, Jam Studio, Dubstep and Loop Labs and decide which service works best for you.

    • 2

Sign up for membership with the website of your choice. Most music mixing websites require sign-up, but offer full access free of charge for registered members.

    • 3

Upload any prerecorded music loops or samples that you would like to use as part of your beat. Use the "Upload" feature and your loop will appear in its own track on the browser. You do not need to use prerecorded loops or samples, but they can serve as a good starting point. You can find free audio loops online at sites like Free-Loops, Looperman and Soundsnap.

    • 4

Add additional loops using the loop library provided by your music mixing site. Choose from lists of prerecorded percussion, bass, synth lines, sound effects and other settings, and place them on the horizontal tracks appearing your browser. If you place different loops on top of each other, they will overlap, giving you a richer sound. For example, you can combine a bass track with a drum track to create percussion and melody on a single beat.

    • 5

Add your own melody lines to the beat. Depending on your service, you may have the ability to program custom note patterns using your computer keyboard, an external MIDI keyboard, or by selecting notes individually on your screen.

    • 6

Add effects. Each track gives you a variety of effects to alter and enhance your sound, including echo and reverb. Explore the different effects and try to add complexity to your beat.

    • 7

Pan different tracks to the left and right channel. For example, try panning a percussion track to the left and a synth line to the right using the "Pan" slider appearing alongside each track. This will make your beat sound more three-dimensional. Always leave your bass and kick drum in the center, or your beat will sound unbalanced.

    • 8

Save your beat to your hard drive using the "Save" function. If you wish to burn your beat to an audio CD, save it in MP3 format. This will allow you to burn your saved project straight to a disc without any compatibility problems.
