Instructions

    • 1

Acquire a digital audio workstation such as: Logic Pro, Reason, Sonar or Pro Tools. These programs can be found at a commercial music store or downloaded from the respective product websites.

    • 2

Install the necessary software on your computer. After you insert the disc into your disc drive, the program will automatically walk you through the installation process. Follow the prompts that pop-up on screen.

    • 3

Open the program to start a new session.

    • 4

Add a "software instrument" track to your session. The exact process for doing this can vary depending on the program you have chosen. Generally, the program will provide a button, or an option accessible through the "Edit" drop-down menu.

    • 5

Select the drum instrument by locating it in the library of available voices provided by the program. In the case of Logic Pro, this can be found toward the top of the table located to the right of the screen.

    • 6

Access the sequencer function of the program. This can be found by clicking the "Piano Roll" or "Step Sequencer" button found toward the bottom of the screen. You will then see a grid with each row corresponding to a drum sound and each column corresponding to a portion of the beat.

    • 7

Place a note by clicking on an intersecting row and column. Depending on the drum tone and rhythm you desire, placement of the notes will vary. Repeat this process to assemble full drum rhythms.
